On Sunday Ozzie will arrive at Ferret Wise SHelter- GOd willing.
Ozzie is a NH Petco refugee, termed a "bad" biter by the sales staff he
was SOLD by the manager at a discounted price $75 SALE - to a woman with
known young children.  This was a little over a year ago.
 
Ozzie BITES.  He bites the young children, who now fear him, a perfectly
natural response to phermones.  ALL animals do this instinctively,
afterall it is a defense mechanism.  Knowing he has the upper hand
Ozzie continues to bite the children, drawing blood and this has been
recognized at school.... INTERVENE Ferret Wise.
 
Now Ozzie will be able to LIVE not be destroyed - however he will only
know sanctuary life - plenty of out of the cage time but not enough human
interaction.  He will not enjoy that life of being a companion animal
with loving hands, enjoying outings in public or the laughter of
children.  Wel,l Ozzie never would enjoy the laughter of children - you
see he is a Marshall Farms ferret .  A blaze with no hearing.  Hearing
deficient, means the humans could not train him.  NOT SURPRISING he ended
up in this predicament, over the years we have seen it over & over again.
 
HOWEVER OZZIE might not have fallen into THIS situation IF the store had
called us when they KNEW he was a "bad" biter!  This is a Petco store in
which Ferret Wise had travelled to, met with supervisors and even run
employee workshops in.  A store WHICH promised they would call with any
problem ferrets.  ANother case of the corporation telling the animal
folks anything they think will make them happy- sacrificing the animals
who fall through the cracks.  YES-- THIS IS PRECISELY the nightmare
living animals face in corporate retail environments.  This time the
ferret is spared not beheaded or euthanized for his inability to
understand.  IF Ozzie had started here - we COULD have trained him and
made sure his placement was with an adoptive family who knew his special
needs.
 
We will send a photo and update once Ozzie is safely in our facility.
PLease send prayers this way... and with the luck of the ferret Gods we
will have an updated report come Monday!
