Thanks Renee and Jen B for your offers to come up to Toronto and help
dig. BOTH of you are truly extraordinary people and you'll never know
how much your offer means to me. Sadly, the way the pipes are now I have
no choice but to have it done immediately. Any laundry, showering or
even a simple flush of a toilet will flood the basement. I can't even
do the freaking dishes or cook anything that requires straining.
I've decided the only thing i can do is to re-mortgage the house and
start all over. My mortgage lady freaked out when i called her today
lol! I've only been here a month and a half :) ah well. What can ya do?
A friend started the digging today but ran into a HUGE problem. The
waste stack (not sure what it's called) is also broken and that's why
even flushing the toilet will flood the basement. SO, not only do i need
to replace the drain in the length of the basement, but i have to replace
1/4 of the stack too. I found a company who will do it all for the same
price as my previous estimate and that's about as good as it gets. They
are also telling me that i *may* get a rebate from the city of up to
$1000. Sheesh, it was their tree that started all of this!
Anyhoo, the short of it is that we'll be living a little less lavishly
(lol) for the next while but at least we have a roof over our heads -
oops, that needs to be fixed too! Moral of this story? Maybe i should
have had 2 home inspections before buying this house and a better lawyer.
SO, if Renee is still willing to cook for American Thanksgiving, I'll
welcome you all to sit with me at my table :) AND share in my bottle of
Vodka <grin>
