I just voted on the poll that Danee posted.  Besides jail time, the
person who abused the animal should pay all vet bills, and pay pet
support to the caregiver as some of these animals cannot ever be adopted
out.  Abuse of an animal desensitizes the person, and usually carries
over to abuse of humans.  Haven't our children been desensitized enough
by the foul language we all hear, and the songs that teach them, not
about love, but about lust, hate, killing, and beating people.
