I am sure all of us who run shelters, don't like to be begging for money
all the time.  I could do so much more with my life then to be listing
stuff on ebay and posting to groups.  It is very time consuming.
 
I think the main problem from the "Old FML" and the new FML with a ton of
advertising is that there are more ferrets out there.  Ferrets have grown
in popularity by leaps and bounds.  Most of all the ferrets out there
that end up in shelters are Petstore Bought ferrets.  The new owners are
uneducated about ferret ownership leading to the surrender of ferrets,
leading to us needing money.  It is a ongoing cycle which needs to be
broken.  I know alot of you that own ferrets and don't have a shelter,
could volunteer at one, which would help.  But more importantly, could
distribute flyers and do educational days at local petstore.  That is
something you could do make an impact, help a shelter, who is very busy
alot of times to do information days because we are medicating, scooping,
feeding, socializing and all the other stuff which goes along with
sheltering.  For every ferret that is dropped off at our doorstep, some
type of medical bill is incurred which has to be paid for.  If we can get
the new owners educated to realize that ferrets have health issues and
that they are not the pet for everyone, this would cut down on the number
of drop offs at shelters.
 
So if you don't have alot of money to donate, do a small part, but
getting the local pet stores to hand out flyers about ferrets.  If anyone
needs flyers, I have them.  I will be happy to send them to you to
photocopy and distribute.  You just need to pay the shipping.  I will
personally pay for the flyer cost.
