Somehow in all this madness it is assumed that I made the "501c comment".
That is simply untrue - I just stated that a "real" shelter keeps its
income and expenses separate from any personal ones - that a "real"
shelter is not for profit - not necessarily registered as such but that
all the money going in for donations and adoptions goes out to cover
expenses. There isn't anything left over to cover breeding of dogs,
breeding of ferrets, eBay purchases, etc. From those that I've
encountered "real" shelters are quite happy to receive suggestions on
how to save money - not defensive and rude to those who contact them.
If the person in question is a "real" shelter then she would have no
problem with questions asked of her about where the money goes. Case
closed.
