Ollie had an Xray yesterday, while he was "under" for neutering. David
(my usual vet) has left the practice so Caroline (another senior vet
with the practice was handling him , on examining the 2 films she is
reasonably happy with him although he seems to have what looks like a
large fat "cushion" that could be encroaching on his heart a little, but
she isn't too concerned about that as its not seriously affecting the
shape/size of his ticker..
What she is a little concerned about is what seems to her to be an "Air
Bronchogram" visible to the left side of the heart. Its a situation she
isn't sure about, in fact it is so small she isn't even certain that it
is as described and she is referring the film to another vet she knows
for his opinion, but she has said that any info I can dig up from
anywhere would be welcome. She also feels the left side of his heart may
be slightly larger, which she confirms would be one of the indicators of
Cardiomyopathy, (as was suggested by several FML replies)but again apart
from the cough there seems to be few symptoms, and she is keeping in mind
that this could be a chronic sinus infection maybe from an allergy or in
relation to the previous housing conditions of living in straw/hay in a
shed with greatly varying temperature conditions.
Strangely.. he had "clenched" his jaw as he "went under" and she wasn't
able to open his mouth widely enough to have a good look at his throat
ect. We are not sure why this was, I haven't noticed anything strange
while he sleeps, but once he is back in with the others I will have easy
access to him and will check out if this is a habit he has when he
sleeps... Its a shame as it prevented her looking in an area she was keen
to "rule out"... but as she said, he had clenched and that was it... no
way to get around it. (stubborn lump of fuzziness!) It kinda put a big
crimp in the "exam" that she had planned for him... she wanted to rule
out as much as possible while he was Out for the count.
So.............. any ideas/experiences anyone has in this area would be
welcome... it will all be thrown into the discussion, She has explained
that this may be something that we just have to manage maybe without
being 100% certain of the root cause.
