I'm afraid this is probably the best thing for some of those ferrets;
most people have no experience of non handled farmed ferrets.  They are
not socialised to other ferrets or human handling and older they get the
madder they become from the boredom.  I ended up with one some years ago;
she would attack just for the fun of it and lock on.  We came to a mutual
understanding after about 6 months, if she did not bite and lock on I
didn't belt her over the head with her feeding bowl to make he let go.
She lived about another 3 years and only drew blood about every 2 months
but never locked on, just a quick bite leaving 4 little bleeding holes.
She was just playing hunt and kill and would never have made a family
pet.  Chris.
