I run a busy shelter. insignificant by some standards, huge by others.
I'm surrounded by some truly dedicated individuals. One of them sent
this to me, & I want to share it w/you. Because although any shelter
needs funds, foods, medications, & all the rest to support the ferrets
in our care, we need understanding & help for our emotional well-being.
I'm happy to say that this is only one example of how thoughtful these
people are. And I hope you can say the same.
---------------
I would like for us to give [Shelter Mom] a Saturday off to go shopping,
have dinner with [Significant Other], a walk in the park or what ever
[he/she] wants to do.
On Saturdays the following needs to be done:
1) Morning vet trip
2) Morning and evening meds
3) Change bedding and clean cages.
4) Ferrets need time out to play.
With 3 to 4 other volunteers we can give her the whole day off.
We need one person to make the morning vet trip; [he/she] usually has an
appointment around 9:00 or 10:00. I can be there from about 12-6 to do
morning meds, clean cages, change bedding, give ferrets time out (it
would be nice to give them extra time out also). I would need someone
to help me to get them all done. One person all day or two could work
in shifts. We would also need one more person to come later and do the
evening meds. Can you believe it takes this many people to do what
[Shelter Mom] does all the time?
What do you all think? Any volunteers?
K[...]
P.S. [Shelter Mom] we would also need something from you also--- a
promise to let us do everything while you enjoy your day.
---------------
There are extraordinary people among us. The foster ferrets & I are
lucky to know some of them.
Please support your local ferret shelter.
Gratefully yours,
[Shelter Mom]
