Jennifer, I know of 2 WONDERFUL shelters in Maryland, Rocky's Ferret
Shelter & Rescue http://www.rockysferrets.com/
and Oxford Ferret Rescue http://www.oxfordferretrescue.org/ .

Before getting a ferret, go to one of these shelter and look and
experience a ferret. Both shelters have EXCELLENT ferret caretakers
and can answer most if not all of your questions and can help you
decide if a ferret is the right friend for you.
