Dear Vicki,
 
I had the same problem getting pills to powder.  I used my rolling pin
and plastic bags.  Then I bought a mortal and pestle, grind them up like
the old time doctors did.
 
Works fine, and can usually be purchased from health food stores, antique
dealers, or from cooking supply houses.
