Here's another recent article about ferrets in a well known paper:
<http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/09/business/yourmoney/09goods.html?
ex=1106319672&ei=1&en=55061126365ccd22>

Note: the NYT requires a subscription to read the article.
[Registration, not subscription, is necessary. BIG]

Summary: Dr. Kitson Logue of Kaytee explains how they adjusted the
formula of their rabbit yogurt drops to appeal to ferrets without adding
a spec of meat. It does have lots of sugar, hydrogenated soybean oil,
some dried egg, wheat and a banana scent.

Dr Logue claims that a ferret can eat up to 1/2 lb of food in a day, or
1/6 of its body weight. That amount seems very high from my experience,
unless you are feeding crap food!

Another interesting tidbit:
>A 2002 survey by the American Pet Product Manufacturers Association
>estimated that there were 554,000 ferret-owning households nationwide,
>up from just 89,300 a decade earlier; each of those households owned
>an average of 1.9 ferrets.

(Thanks to Steve Crandall who brought this article to my attention.)
