Ferrets turning gray is called "roaning" and is fairly common, especially
for silver or marked white ferrets. It happens with other colors too.
My first ferret Belle was a standard sable when young, and started
roaning by 3 years old. By the time she died at 7 1/2, she had quite a
bit of silver, especially in her hind quarters. Cassie was a black mitt
when young, and is now a medium silver at 4 1/2. I've seen some medium
silvers turn almost all white by 6-7 years old.
Anyway, it's nothing to worry about, and lends an air of distinction to
your fuzzy!
