Early morning at the Bridge finds Muldoone already out of bed and getting
a head start on his day of mischief and mayhem. "Scudder old buddy, cans
you bweive it dat Nanna actually asks me to comes back to da Bwidge"
Muldoone asks his pal Scooter. "Uh no Mully, answers Scooter, we were
all purddy surrprized whens we hears 'bout it."
Just then down the path comes Nanna and you could tell she was a ferret
on a mission. Not bothering to knock she heads into Muldoone's hut.
Scooter and Muldoone are hding behind Mully's hut and Muldoone puts a
paw to his lips and signals his friend to be silent as they hear Nanna
calling out Muldoone's name. "Muldoone, where are you, you have a new
arrival this morning and I came to get you to go to the Bridge. I know
you know how to do yoru job but this is your first day back after a
vacation and I thought I would come along to observe." Silence, Nanna
hears nothing but silence in reply. "Muldoone, where are you" Nanna
yells out with a bit of an edge to her voice. "I should have known it
was a mistake to ask him to come back, what was the matter with me, he is
never going to grow up and be the regal dignified Bridge Greeter I had
hoped he would become. I just know he and the boys are off on another
flannel nightgown raid." About that time Nanna hears giggling from behind
the hut. Out the door and around back she goes in a blinding blur of
fur. "Oh so you think it is funny to get me worried about where you are
young man. You get yourself inside and comb that hammy-head fur and then
we are due at the Bridge for the morning arrival." By this time Nanna was
nose-to-nose with Muldoone and something told him this would not be a
good time to make a comment about the nice new apron she was wearing, the
one with the big red pockets she kept full of raisins. Scoter finds his
voice as well as his feet and informs his friend he will talk to hjm
later, Scooter knew when to make himself scarce.
A few minutes Muldoone and Nanna arrive at the Bridge and Nanna begins
to explain who the new comer is they are there to greet. "Muldoone the
little sable boy coming this morning is Calvin. He lost his battle with
cancer and just 2 months his mom Linda let the vet remove one of his back
legs in hopes of stopping the bone cancer but it obviously didn't and now
he has come here to be with us. Gosh Nanna, dis guy Calbin be missin a
weg, how cans he wunsast, how cans he pway, how cans he cwimb, how cans
he goes on fwannel nightgown waids wif us, er I mean hows cans he do stuf
wif a weg missin? Muldoone, have you forgotten everything I taught you
about life here at the Bridge Nanna asked her junior Bridge greeter, when
animals arrive here, they are once again whole, they are no longer sick
or elderly, they don't arrive missing anything except for the love of
their hoomans back on Earth. Sworry Nanna, I forgetts" answers Mully
Just then there was a blinding flash and the sound of ferrety feet could
be heard coming across the Bridge. Muldoone stepped forward as Calvin
arrives at the end of the Rainbow Bridge. "Weltomes Calbin, I be Mr.
Muldoone, officialist Bwidge Gweeter and dis be Nanna, my boss, Muldoone
explains to him gesturing in Nanna's direction. Yes welcome Calvin Nanna
tells him stepping forward to offer her nose in a warm friendly greeting.
Before Nanna or Muldoone could explain any more about the Rainbow Bridge
and all it had for the residents there, Calvin started dancing a very
wild and silly weasel war dance. WOOKS AT MY WEG he is yelling and
dancing all at the same time, I GOTS FOUR WEGS AGAIN!!! As I was riding
over on a moonbeam I hads an angel in the light wif me and she tells me
when I gets here I will habs my gone weg back wif me and wooks, I habs
it. Muldoone had never seen such a happy ferret, this guy was running
and dancing and turning flips, he was sure one happy fuzzy to have his
leg back. I not knows what it be wike to woose a weg but if it makes
you dat happy to habs it back 'gain, it must be purddy 'portant Mully
tells Calvin. It be berry 'portant Mr. Muldoone and I be happy to be
here. I misses my mom Winda buts I not be sick anymore. Mr. Muldoone
Calvin begins, the angel who wides on the moonbeam tomming here, she
tells me I tan go bisit my mom in her dweams and I wants to kno if dat
be twue. Yes dat be twue Calbin, tomeon, and I will shows you. And den
after dat, I takes you to dirt mountain, and da tube races and sock city,
and da snack bar and to fweece mountain and..... .
Tells me kid Muldoone says to Calvin as they are disappearing down the
path, how do you feel about fwannel. Nanna can't help but shake her head
when she hears this as her heart whispers "my angel-boy BRAT is back
where he belongs and I missed him."
