I liked the travel tip and thought I'd add mine.  I have a med size
Petmate carrier and found that a basic cat rectangle litterbox fits in it
perfectly (with the long side of the litterbox against the back of the
carrier).  I put newspaper or papertowels in the litterbox (so no litter
spills) and have room for a hammy above the litterbox and a blanket area
in front of it.
 
I also found inexpensive little plastic clip on food/water dishes in the
bird aisle.
