I always read the FML but rarely post here.  I just want to make you all
aware of this so it doesn't happen to your babies.
 
I took my most beloved ferret, Snoopy, for his distemper shot yesterday.
I pretreated him with Benadryl before we left the house (about 45 minutes
before the shot was given).  He has had Fervac twice and Purevax once and
rabies shots yearly and never had a problem whatsoever.  I only pretreat
as a precaution.  It didn't help in the least!  He reacted violently
IMMEDIATELY.  I had barely put him back in the cage and gone to the front
office to wait for a couple of hours as I always do.  His nose and paws
turned beet red and he lost control of his bowels.  I rushed him back and
my vet gave him steriods (epinephrine I think), benadryl, and put him in
the incubator.  When he still didn't respond, she started an IV and put a
catheter in him.  They even had him on the respirator and gave him chest
compressions but they couldn't save him.  I have all the faith in the
world in my vets and I know that they are the best.  They did everything
humanly possible to save him.  I am so very devastated by this.  I don't
think that I will ever vaccinate for Rabies or Distemper again.  I
thought I was so safe because he had never had a problem!
 
I know that he is in the Good Lords loving hands now but I want him in
mine!  He was my first ferret and the one that showed me the meaning of
fuzzy love.  He loved to cuddle me and would come and climb in my lap
to snuggle all the time.  I am so empty now.....
 
I do not want anyone else to suffer this horrible loss so everyone PLEASE
BEWARE!!!
