Hello and happy holidays (-:
Following is the long version, but basically I'm wondering if there is a
big difference in BG readings if the blood is taken from the leg rather
than the neck.
My new vet had a lot of trouble getting blood for BG tests for both
Mikette and Jillie. She was trying to get it from the vena cava at their
neck. Both fuzzgals squirmed, and although we could get them still, it
wasn't long enough for sufficient blood to be drawn. Both ferrets were
extremely stressed. Next week Jillie will be put under a light anestesia
to draw her blood and I'm supposed to bring ferretone for Mikette (but I
don't think that will do the trick, we already tried ferretvite, and
she's insulinomic).
My vet wasn't interested in getting the blood from their legs, partly
because last time Mikette's reading was from the neck (and she felt the
readings could be different).
I was wondering what other opinions are. I think it's better to get a
reading from the leg, to reduce ferret stress, avoid anestesia, and to
actually get a reading (we didn't a much needed reading from Mikette
who's meds have been changed or from Jillie who I suspect may be
borderline insulinomic). But I don't know how different a reading is
if the blood is taken from a leg. Any opinions?
Thanks
Risa
