I crossed on I-80 from Reno into Tahoe. I was lucky enough to find
an alternate route into California so I didn't have to go through the
highway patrol stop. It was only 10 minutes out of my way-so I was
lucky. Here's a tip: They rarely stop you if you have California plates.
If you can keep the little ones hidden just tell the CHP you were
visiting relatives in AZ-they always let us through without searching
the car. Also, since Arnold has been in office-he's made major cutbacks
and the border checkpoints has been on the list. One might get lucky if
there isn't anyone manning the border stations.

If you're planning on driving up through Nevada and taking I-80 in,
contact me and I can give directions to take an alternate route.
