No. The Governor is a liberal Republican. in the last election, Sen.
Tom McClintock was the conservative canidate. Schwarzenegger is a
populist and like it or not ferret owners in California don't have any
power, they are divided by other issues. Myslef like many other ferret
owners don't vote on just one issue. I am likely to vote for a canidate
that is anti-ferret so long he or she supports other issues that have
more of an impact on society at large. California is largely a one party
state and that party is the liberal party, sure there are conservative
strongholds, the rural counties, but most of the Republicans that hold
state office lean to the left, as in Schwarsenegger. As a person that
leans libertarian to conservative Schwarzenegger has done nothing but
piss me off.

If you are wondering why an otherwise pro-ferret person like the governor
would veto this law the answer is simple politics. CWA, Defenders of
WIldlife, etc have membership rolls that they can whip out and say "look
Mr. Governor, we have this many thousands vote's at stake if you sign
this bill". The ferret community is in denial believing they have enough
of a voting block to sway an election one way or the other. The only
hope we have is time.
