My 6 year old ferret has had insulinoma for over a year and a half.  He
is now in end stage, maxed out on meds (prednisolone & diazoxide).  I
tried to give him a little more than max dosage of pred. but it makes
him nauseous and he won't eat.  His meds used to work for a few hours,
but now it doesn't seem to work at all.  At night I try to give him the
high dose because it helps a little and I can sleep for a few hours.
Someone has to be hoe with him all the time.  He has gained a lot of
weight and doesn't get around well anymore.  I have tried giving him
sugary baby food desserts, but they only seem to help for about an hour.
I give him devils club supreme twice a day and that is the only thing
that helps his blood sugar go up.  I test him at home.  I told the vets
no more visits, it just upsets him.
 
Is there anything that would last him two hours at least?  I feed him
duck soup every three hours.  I can't leave anything in the cage for him
to eat because he won't get up and eat it.  He won't eat unless I set a
plate in front of him and wake him up.  I would like to stop torturing
him with the meds because they don't seem to help much.  I am giving him
Timmy's tonic, but that's hard to get him to take too.  Anyone have
experience with this and insulinoma.  Or is it time to let go.  We have
never had to make a decision like this, it's so hard.
