On a list last week someone posted about 4 ferrets needing to be adopted.
The fifth ferret was older and advanced adrenal so they were just going
to put him to sleep when the other 4 were adopted out. They couldn't see
anyone wanting to take on a sick ferret...
Well of course we would. I picked them up (with the help of my friend
John and his truck) last Saturday. The owners cried... they had cages
and food and hammocks and litter. All kids were loved. just the time
out was not there anymore.
So. Athena, Pokey, Christi, Harrah and Zeus all came to our home.
Ferret Corner Shelter.
Happy kids. loved to play and loved to be around people. Always ready
to come out of the cage. That first day. I went to put them in the cage
after several hours of being out. and them being asleep. yeah, they
woke up! LOL
Well they all had their shots already so that part was taken care of.
Now, just the evaluation for Zeus to have adrenal surgery. This little
bald boy didn't know he was sick. He was active and happy. He went in
to the vet on Tuesday. Our vet agreed with us that the bald boy was
adrenal :-) hee hee
So today. he went in for surgery. I was pretty worried cause it's a new
vet at our clinic. She had never done adrenal surgeries but we felt
comfortable with her and felt that he would do ok.
He went through surgery just fine. She removed the left adrenal gland
(1cm) and looked at the other one. The right one felt a little rough but
didn't remove it per our discussion.
She also found that he had about 10-20 nodules on his pancreas. She did
not remove any due to the fact that she didn't want to cause any more
trauma and that she wouldn't be able to get them all. He had been open
for an hour.
When they got done with surgery his temp. was low so they put him on a
heating pad. When I talked to her. he was up and running around his
cage. as she put it "acting like a ferret".
So the 5 kids in AZ that needed a new home. have one here with us. at
least until we find a home that either wants all 5 or we are comfortable
with splitting them up a little.
Should have pictures of the kids up on the shelter site in the next day
or so.
