We've been dealing with a similar situation. Our 6-year old male Beeker
about a month ago started having these strange sneezing/coughing fits.
We monitored him thinking he might just have a cold since he was still
eating well. But about a week and a half later he became very lethargic
and we rushed him to our vet. Our clinic has only two vets that have any
experience at all with ferts. One to a much lesser degree than the other
who was who examined our little guy. X-rays showed really nothing. But
she thinks she felt a growth on his pancreas. Blood work showed a blood
glucose level of 24. She consulted with the other vet and they both
seemed to think it was an inslinoma. The options provided were
supportive care or pancreas disection which might buy him an extra 6
months which we won't put him through due to his age. We have him on
Torbugesic for pain and Pepto for his stomach (he's had ulcers in the
past).
He's lost some weight, but still eats as he can. He also still has that
raspy/sneezing/cough which I have never heard associated with Insulinoma
and the vet either couldn't explain or dismissed as he didn't do it while
at the clinic. Thankfully he has not had any seizures. Also we have
another boy in with Beeker who is as active as ever. I feel as if we're
grasping at straws here, but these vets have been wrong in the past and
if there is any chance that this is something he might recover... I know
it is slim and he is getting older... these syptoms seem similar.
Sincerely, James & Heather Ryssman, Beeker and Bean (exiled Californians
in Tennessee)
