Hello! I am new to the list.
I have three ferret babies, one just having bi-lateral surgery done last
week as well as being diagnosed/treated with insulinoma. One of my other
ferrets was diagnosed/started treatment for insulinoma last week as well.
I joined this and other ferret groups to learn every possible aspect on
what to expect in the future with these diseases and so far have learned
quite a deal. This subject peeked my interest because Belinos, my
bi-lateral recovery baby has been caught licking his own urine for some
months now. I also saw him doing it when I visited him at the vet
yesterday. There is always water for him in more than one place in my
apartment so it is not for the lack of liquids. I am wondering if this
is the same thing as when cats lick cat litter. I have one cat that
licks cat litter and after doing research found out that they do this
when they have some underlying health issue, which he has hyperthyroidism
so that would make sense. So could the urine licking be a behavior
cuased from an underlying health issue or is it something else? My other
two ferrets never do this so in my mind the possibility is there. Great
question! You are not the only one that has a ferret with a pee pee
fetish! I am very curious to find out the answer to this. Thanks for
your time.
Bridgette
