She needs treatment for insulinoma, not sugars. If the problem later becomes too great for control by surgery, meds, or both then add sugars because used that way they can at times give a sizeable chunk of extra quality life. Surgery by a ferret-knowledgeable vet is the usual approach, but if not a surgical candidate then Pred, Diazoxide, or both will be used. Your vet was good to check the blood sugar; many times the first thought is "neurological problem" when with ferrets that should not be the first thought. Now, the ways to treating this just need to be learned. These will help you ( I am emphasizing things by mostly by vets so that you can also share them with your vet.): Assorted critical references at http://www.ferretcongress.org You may as well begin with some of the ones there by ferret knowledgeable vets, such as: http://www.afip.org/ferrets/index.html http://home.att.net/~hhoefer/ferret_insulinoma.htm http://www.lbah.com/Ferrets/insulinoma.htm http://www.petcarevabeach.com/insul.html http://www.bradleyhills.com/ferret/publications.htm Assorted posts (esp ones by vets and people experienced with ferrets at) http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org such as: http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/browse.php?msg=SG5572 http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/browse.php?msg=SG4762 http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/browse.php?msg=SG4502 http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/browse.php?msg=SG4394 http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/browse.php?msg=SG4346 http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/browse.php?msg=SG3799 http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/browse.php?msg=SG3569 http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/browse.php?msg=SG3059 etc. Never forget the useful FML Archives, or other sets of links either.
