I have to agree with Chris Lloyd that dairy products can be a life-saver
with an extremely ill ferret.  I had a very ill old girl live on milk and
egg yolk for three months before she became well enough to take a proper
diet again.  The lactose intolerance is easily overcome by giving them
LACTOSE-FREE milk.
 
In fact, I've just finished sending a letter to Sukie, describing the
cream coloured poo tubes that all of my ferrets do some hours after
having their breakfast of milk with egg yolk and Nutripet. :-)
