Marguerite, it is NOT the Galaxy which the vets on the FHL have reported
seeing seeing much lower rates of reactions with, it is the new one: the
Merial's Purevax CD vax for ferrets which is having their reported much
reduced rates of reactions.
 
Of course, reduced rate still means that reactions can happen.  It is
very important that folks take the careful steps of not giving CD vax and
rabies vax in the same appointment, that people remain at the hospital
for at least 45 minutes after vaccinations, that they premedicate as
their treating vet decides, etc.
 
One other vax reminder, this one for newbies: your new kits need multiple
CD vax timed a number of weeks between, and a rabies vax once old enough.
The word seems to be getting out better about the kit CD vax this year;
many years we FHL moderators hear -- often privately from people too
upset to post -- of a number of kits dying absolutely torturous deaths
because their new people didn't know about providing the series of shots.
I suspect some pet stores or perhaps a major chain's stores have cleaned
up their act some in relation to what is said to purchasers so the kits
are being protected, either that or there may be fewer "hot zones" this
year for CD infection and this is just a temporary reprieve.
 
In relation to titers, the nuances of interpreting such titer levels
accurately in ferrets are still lacking.
