Hi listers,
Well the unfortunate and all-too-common tragedy is repeating itself. My
sister in law gave in to her son's pleas and bought a ferret at a pet
store. My husband and I had tried to convince her to not do it. Her son
is 10, overactive and impulsive, and they've never had any kind of pet
before -- not even a hamster.
You know the rest of the story. In just four days the poor ferret has
become a frightened little biter. I live 13 hours' drive away (each
way). A look at the FML shelter list shows that the Chicago-area
shelters are already beyond capacity. Please -- how can I help this
ferret? Any advice? Is there anyone out there who who knows of a
shelter that could take this poor little thing if necessary, or who would
even just volunteer to talk to her on the phone about what to do with a
biting ferret? She might listen to advice from a 3rd party. She said
she's going to "give it until the end of the month to try and break it
(of biting)." I'm afraid she will just take it back to the store or to
animal control, and we all know what will happen then. :((( She lives
in the 'burbs SW of Chicago.
