Seems everyone is answering with the fact that ferrets live shorter
lives.  Here's another thought or two.
 
Ferrets haven't been pets, well cared for pets, nearly as long as dogs
and cats.  (Yes, I know they've been around for a long time, but, I think
you know what I mean.) Obviously, not as much money goes into researching
their health problems.  Vets that will care for cats and dogs are
everywhere.  Nearest vet that knows enough about ferrets to treat them
is 1 hour away.  I don't go an hour away from home for much of anything.
But I do it for my ferrets because I want them to be well cared for.  I
tried the local vet once because they said they treated ferrets, but they
obviously didn't know much about them.  I think if as much money was
spent on ferret research as dog and cat research, ferrets would be alot
less sickly.
 
Yikes, must go to work!
