Please please can we finally put that old myth to bed, kits can almost
certainly digest milk and if every owner of a baby ferret gave it a drink
of milk every week I doubt if any ferret would became lactose intolerant.
It is about the only thing a sick ferret will drink with forcing and
considering they can almost live on full milk it can be a life saver
here in the UK.

[Moderator's note: Whoa... hold on.  Although you are probably correct
that ferrets given milk throughout their lives would not become lactose
intolerant, the fact is, at least in the States, that nearly all ferrets
ARE lactose intolerant -- they are typically not raised with milk here.
 
Feeding milk to an ill ferret who is lactose intolerant will just make
things worse.  Heavy cream is a lower lactose alternative which might
help in SOME cases.  BIG]
