I, too, hate those sticky traps.  You might as well just use a regular
mouse trap.  At least that would dispatch them a little more humanely.
They are both cruel.
 
On occasion I have a brave little soul wander into my home and I have 2
cats!  I didn't even want to see the cats get them.  Wal-Mart has this
little cube shaped thing called a Mice Cube.  It's on the same idea as a
tender trap I just put a peanut in it and when the mouse goes in he can't
get out.  Then I take them a little ways from my home and release them.
No harm done.
