If fleas are your only problem, you can't beat Advantage.  I buy the dose
for dogs over 55 pounds and use a syringe to remove just enough for a
ferret.  About 0.1 ml per kg seems to be plenty.  If you need to kill
fleas, ticks, mites and prevent heartworm, then Revolution is your best
bet.
 
Yes, they need distemper and rabies vaccine.  They can be done together
and many vets will try to give them that way, but it is much better to
give them about 2-3 weeks apart.  If you give them together and they get
a reaction, you have no way to know which one caused it.  Usually it is
better to get their distemper first along with their check up, then come
back in 2-3 weeks for the rabies.
