You might have hit right on the answer yourself in here. The vet may
have felt that there was enough stress from the anesthesia at the time
that prolonging the time under the knife didn't make sense. While we
haven't had this with adrenal surgery, we have had at least two in which
the vet basically said, "I wasn't happy with the spleen but it didn't
pose an immediate threat and further time under anesthesia was not a good
idea at that point, so it has to come out later." It may also be that the
vet is very worried about Addisons, perhaps from not having Florinef or
Procorten handy, or maybe from encountering an unusual individual who
wasn't responsive to either med.

BTW, Ashling who has been on Florinef maybe 3 years and absolutely
thrives on it was up on the top of our bedroom door again yesterday.
She's never had great follicles since she had both adrenals up acutely,
even with them out (cleanly) she goes a bit bald now and then due to that
and right now her fur is almost non-existant on her sacrum and tail. We
know that it is not a worry and it was checked even though she does this
on and off under stress and Glueball recently died while Sevie is ill.

Anyway, she was doing her imitation of Snoopy parodying a vulture, but
then decided that she wanted privacy so she hid in clothing hung behind
the door but her pink bald tail was still out waving around over the top
of the door like a giant worm. It was like playing hide and seek with
Hjalmar used to be. We'd say, "Where's Hjalmar?" and he'd hide but often
he'd goof and leave his bum hanging out, so he'd be so happy that he'd be
doing that heh-heh-heh breathy ferret laugh and his tail would be wagging
a mile a minute. Try keeping a straight face while repeating "Where's
Hjalmar?".

Threw out a lace curtain yesterday. Poor Ashling. It was the most
recent favorite one she used for the same purpose that some of my long
dresses have sadly served. 6 year old Ashling LOVES to climb (and will
do while holding the tv remote or a sock with a tennis ball in it).
Usually she likes us to get her down, but maybe a third of the time she
likes to hook her front claws into something then let her bum dangle
free. The result is that she rips her way down the fabric. Lace
curtains are perfect so we have learned to buy the VERY cheap ones. It
is like seeing one of those 1930s films with the buccaneer hero coming
down the sail using two swords. After enough times of doing that all
that is hanging of the curtains is a tatter with seams at top, bottom,
and sides. I don't even want to talk about the gorgeous green dress that
got used only once, or the one that never was used at all, or the two
that i remade into skirts after their bodices were shredded. (Hey, I
learn slowly, okay?)
