To the person who is considering buying the fert who looks so bad at the
pet store.
 
Do it!...If he smells, looks coarse and scraggly and is bad tempered he
needs care.  I have "liberated" more than one ferret from a pet store and
i have never regretted it.  I have read many posts about Petco , and
boycots.  The petco's in NYC , of course cannot sell ferrets ,but the
ones on Long Island that can ,seem to have really decent conditions.  On
the other hand the chain stores PETLAND DISCOUNTS are the worst horror
ever.I have harrassed managers more than once in petland discounts about
ferts not having food ,water, clean conditions.No one seems to care!
 
I went to a Petland once and the poor kits were sucking an empty water
bottle.  I said to an employee they needed a refill.  She said "DUH
HUH.. ok"
 
I returned a few hours later and ..no water.  I asked the manager why and
he said that their water bottle had a hole in it and they drained it in a
minute.  It was "not on the schedule till six in the evening for an
employee to refill water and food" .That would have been six hours away!.
The two kits had no food either, with the same 'schedule ' excuse.  The
manager stated that they kept scattering it all over anyway.They stunk as
well and had gunk all over them.
 
I checked for a few days..  and ti was the same.  Now how much effort and
exoense ould it have been to put a new water bottle in the cage..  or a
bin feeder.  I mean really!.  So i purchased a new feeder and bottle and
put it in the cage.  The manager said he was going to call the police.
I told him to go ahead and do just that.The whole thing is ridiculous.
I ended up buying those kits, which ended up well for those particular
kits , but those conditions go on.
