We helped Merry cross the bridge Monday afternoon. She will always live
on in our hearts. Merry was my joy, so brave with an amazingly strong
spirit. She loved squeak toys and stuffed animals and would drag them
off no matter what the size. Merry was our acrobat and could get
anywhere she had a mind to and was a master thief. She especially loved
to chew on daddy s expensive headphones and music equipment. Her antics
will always be remembered with a smile and a tear.
Merry was definitely the alpha of the business. Pippin would always
defer to her and the kitty that stayed with us for a short time was
terrified of her. She would strike at him like a snake if he got to near
her hidey hole, or if he was breathing too loudly J !!
Merry and Zira had a rivalry going on for a little while, but Zira
finally deferred to her as well. She and Zira would battle each other in
the dig box. Daddy would play a game where he would hold both girls over
the box and say ready, set, go! Then drop both girls in and they would
have a wild time thrashing and jumping about. Whoever jumped out first
lost, while the winner would haughtily look down upon them from the
winner s circle in the box.
What I ll remember most about Merry is her intelligence. She could
understand me so well. When it was time to eat in these last couple
weeks she would come right up and look at me a certain way and I would
know she was hungry. While I went to get her the gravy I made for her I
would say wait right there and when I returned she d be sitting patiently
(for a ferret) on the couch waiting for her dinner. Merry could never be
fooled either. If you hid something from her behind your back or on a
table, she knew just where it was. And most the time would figure out
a way to reach it. She could climb anything, would do pull-ups on the
plant stands, and could scale a mountain if she wanted to. She was so
brave.
I like the rainbow bridge stories. Sandee please watch for Merry and
welcome her. She doesn t know any ferrets on the other side and I don t
want her to be lonely.
Sadly, Trish ~ Pippin & Zira with angel Merry watching over us
