Thank you all for the replies both private and public.
Sheila & Linda Iroff helped me come to a conclusion in regards to the
discussion about ferret diet, simple cause and effect. It doesn't take a
rocket scientist to see that our fuzzies are omnivores, carnivores first,
insectivores second & possible pisceivorious. The teeth tell the tale ,
canines are dominate the molars are small and not arranged for continual
grinding as would be found in herbivores.
We have read that when foreign ferrets are imported and are not fed
their meat based diets they were raised on and feed them the kibble the
problems start all over again..
Is it possible to get extruded foods that are meat based (you kibble
producers listening)......
We basically feeding a carnivore a diet of very little digestible
protein, I know that I wouldn't want to live on a diet of salad all day .
As for humans we are absolute omnivores , we have the complete dental
package , incisors for slicing meats canines for holding and tearing
meats and vegetables , molars for grinding grains all in all we are set
up as opportunistic feeders, we eat what we find as hunter gatherers.
BTW, many of the great apes have canines and do eat meat. Case in point
the chimpanzees, they are vicious hunters that attack other chimp clans
and take the victims away and take much pleasure in devouring the
carcasses. Gorillas use their canines only for show (both highland and
lowland)
ok i did slide away from weasels a bit but it was to reinforce a point
about dentalia and diet.
