Dear Y,
What you are describing is a splenic infarct. It is not the result of an
injury, but a sequela to enlargement of the spleen and local cutoff of
the blood supply. Splenic infarcts can result in unexplained fevers,
abdominal hemorrhage, and peaks in white blood cell counts, but surgical
excision of the spleen is largely curative.

With kindest regards,
Bruce Williams, DVM
