I went to the pet store tonight to buy some stuff for the ferrets and the
one I went to sells cats and dogs, but tonight they had two ferts.  MF 5
month old sable boys (big boys too!)
 
I spoke with one of the employees about their care and he said that they
didn't get out of the cage for exercise (they were in a small rabbit
cage...) and they had no food.  The guy was really helpful, found out
what they eat for me (vita-sun -Yuck!) and told me that the person that
was taking care of them had fed them a few hours before and they must
have dug it out of the bowl (in their defense there was a lot of food in
the tray under them...) he let me take them out and play with them for a
bit (wanted to stay longer, but I had to get home and ready for work)
 
Anyway I asked him about ferret care and he knew nothing, so I informed
him about as much as I could and asked if they had any sort of
information FAQ sheet they give to people buying ferrets and he said
they didn't give them anything, they carry books and magazines about
ferrets and just expect owners to buy one.
 
I KNOW someone out there has to have a good FAQ sheet that they can send
me a copy of.  I want to go back up there tomorrow and check on them
again, and give them information to hand out to potential ferret owners.
We don't have any shelters here and I'd like to think that's because
there isn't a need for them... and I want to keep it that way.  I was
going to try to type up something myself, but I don't have a ton of time
and if I did I'd be afraid of missing something important.
 
SO if anyone can mail me something I can copy and give to them I would
really appreciate it.  If you have a document t hat you can email to me
even better, but snail mail will be great too.  I plan to stay on top of
this pet store.  The employee I spoke with was really happy to learn
about ferrets and had lots of questions for me which made me feel good.
