I do not think high prices for companion animals is any deterrent to
an animal being dumped, here in the UK ferrets cost only 5 to 10 pounds
( under 15 dollars ) and there are no large numbers of them in shelters.
But our dog shelters are full of very expensive pedigree dogs that people
have bought because they were so dear and fashionable only to find they
need looking after.
