I'll second Dr Ruth.  I would keep your insulinoma ferret on pred until
the surgery.  I usually tell my clients to give the morning dose before
bringing them in on the surgery day.  Pred can cause some healing
problems in other animals, but I have not had that problem in ferrets.
In cases where both of the adrenals are removed I start them on Pediapred
right after the surgery then taper them off or down to lowest dose needed
usually with Percorten.  Again no problem with them healing.
