I was at a site for Roses yesterday, and on their message board was a
post that said, "I rescued 60 mini roses from a grocery yesterday, help".
There was talk of "rescues", naming their rose bushes, and the like on
the board.  I'm a nonflower/plant person.  So my immediate reaction...
was to think to myself "woa... a little overboard or fanatical here".
But then I thought of the FML.  And I thought, whats the difference.  Ya
know?  I mean, I'm sure that owners of monkeys, dogs, and horses (animals
that have so much intelligence and emotion) think we might be odd in how
we talk about our ferrets.  But you can't measure things in that manner.
My point is, that we must understand that to the average person, our
terms and views here do seem fanatical.  But thats okay.  So do be aware
of that.  And do be understanding of that, please.  I mean I had the same
feelings at the Rose site at first.
 
Now for my second point.  I did not post on the Rose board and say that
their forum was silly.  Its not for me to say that.  I just went in
there, skipped the things that don't interest me, and benefited from the
great information there, and the things that I did enjoy.  But I didn't
go in and stir up things, place judgement on them, or post anything
negative.
 
To the person that posted, yes a few of us (i'm not saying most or all)
call our ferrets "kids".  But not children.  When we say "kids", most of
us (though not all), mean "furkids".  Its just a short nickname.  None of
us are comparing human children and animals, although some of us value
them as highly (just differently).  We can't, they are apples and
oranges.  Realize that many of us here are also artists, and love to post
and write creatively.  If that is not what you seek, skip those posts.
Just look for the subject titles that interest you (medical information,
care, etc).  No big deal.... unless you make it one.
