My Stinky has never liked ferretlax or petromalt at all. I have tried
putting some in her mouth and then smearing a little on her lips so she
can get used to the taste of it, but she hates it. She is a very picky
eater and refuses to like anything that's good for her. She's never
really had a problem with hairballs in the past so the little I forced
in her mouth was enough to keep me thinking I was a good fuzzie mom.
Yesterday she started dry coughing and scared me a little. I force fed
her a little petromalt (fish flavored!) little by little by putting a dab
on my finger and putting it on her tongue. She was mad at me after that!
I know I didn't get the full inch in her it says on the package to use
when they have a hairball. It also says to feed an inch a day until the
symptoms end. I can't see myself fighting her everyday for a couple of
days for some petromalt. I want some sweet kisses some time soon. :0)
Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this process quicker or easier?
I realize I will still have to force her to eat it, but the way I'm doing
it seems to take forever and we both end up messy.
I also wanted to say thanks for the suggestions to help with my dog
eating my ferret's food. I have foiled his plan! One for the human! ;0)
I got Stinky a deeper crock that wasn't as long as the old one and then
I put a small square of smaller wire on the outside of her cage blocking
his tongue. He hasn't gotten to the food since. I am also going to get
some pelxiglass for the bottom of the chameleon's cage to keep Stink from
climbing his home. Right now I have some cardboard attached to the cage
for a temporary solution. She hasn't figured out how to get above it....
YET.
I'm so glad I'm a part of a group of people that are willing to help with
even the smallest problems. Thanks to all!
