Hey guys-
I know we're all outraged at what Morrison posted to the FML. Heck, me
too! But I wanted to mention that I think it's a waste of time to respond
to her words. Obviously nothing that appears here is going to change her
warped mind. I can almost guarantee that that extremely sick and twisted
individual is actually enjoying the time that people take to respond to
her rudeness and insanity. To people like Morrison, that kind of
attention is exactly what they want. They love for people to be focused
on them, even if it's because they did or said something totally
disturbing.
I just wanted to suggest that that time might be better spent writing to
the judge and newspaper on behalf of the ferrets and expressing concern
and outrage from across the country. Let's share constructive ways to
use this anger and energy and get the message across to Utah that this
was a travesty of justice we won't take quietly.
My letter to both the newspaper and the judge was not very complimentary,
but I'm not exactly looking to make friends there...what we have to
understand is that for the most part, the case itself is over. The judge
will not be calling her back into the courtroom and changing her sentance
(although she might get in trouble for the incendiary e-mails and letters
she's sending, so anyone who gets those ought to forward them to the judge
and to the prosecutor). Newspapers print their mistakes on the front page
and their retractions on page 20. Even if the newspaper takes back its
complimentary portrait of the "Ferret Friend", it will not be done in a
well-publicized way.
So what's the good in writing??
Writing to the newspaper accomplished two things...maybe next time, the
reporter will get more angles on the story. I know they often have tight
deadlines and they cannot chase down every lead, but come on! Morrison is
now a convicted animal abuser. Why did most of the articles' information
come from her?? Also, if the editor receives a slew of letters and faxes
denouncing the story, he may not only decide to assign a new reporter to
do a new story, he might also admonish the reporter who did such a poor
job. Which I, personally, think he deserves. How do I know this might
happen? Because I've complained to a newspaper before and there were
results. I won't post that entire tale here, but anyone who's interested
can e-mail me privately.
Writing to the judge and faxing the judge makes the judge and the other
judges aware of the concern for ferrets. Make no mistake, Morrison will
do this again. "Collectors" often claim to be rescuers. Hint: if
the animals all go in, but none come out, they're being collected, not
rescued! These people are sick. And they do NOT stop. Some don't stop
even after intensive therapy. Their need to collect animals is the same
as any other addiction, only they are often in total denail and claim to
be "rescuers". She'll be back in court again. And next time, I'd like
the judicial people in her county to be much more aware of the
consequences she had on the nation's shelter system.
So, those are my thoughts. Don't waste time responding to Morrison and
her sick twisted mind here on the FML. If she's reading them at all,
she's just taking pleasure in how many people have had to work so hard
to clean up her careless, abusive mess. Let's use this energy and outrage
to make a difference and send a message that ferret lovers will not take
this decision (or that crappy article) lying down. Let's tell Utah what
we think of Jen Morrison. And maybe next time they'll punish her as she
deserves. Or, at least they won't write newspaper articles portraying
her as the victim!

Wishing ferrets could give the "finger" to certain officials and
collectors!
