PV doesn't tattoo or anything, so there's really no way to tell.

We had two that we know were PV and one we think was PV:
1. Knuks - female, died at age 5 with hemangiosarcoma involving the
mesenteric lymph node. Had left adrenal removed at 4. No insulinoma.
(This is the one we're not positive was PV.)
2. Bosco da Gama - male, died at age 4 with lymphoma. Had left adrenal
removed at 3. No insulinoma.
3. Trixie - female, age 7. Never been sick in her life (knocking
vigorously on wood). She has gone blind over the last year and just
recently had a bad tooth removed, otherwise, she is healthy. Bloodwork
last month showed everything completely normal.
