Just a reminder that Spirit's web page can be found at
http://www.psychonook.com/Spirit/Spirit.html

I'll be updating it shortly.

I recently visited the Family Pet Center in Holyoke, and nearly went out
of there in tears. My husband, however, surprised me pleasently by going
to one of the two young people (They always put kids in these jobs, ever
notice that?) and informing him that the two ferrets- they were in a
cage, which is a step up from the plexiglass prison cell we found Kokie
in- needed food. Their bowl was empty, and ferrets need food available
at all times of the day and night. Wow! What a wonderful man I married!

The poor kittens in the cage without a bed were bad, contained with their
mother in a cage too small for most rodents, but the puppies.. Let mll
you about the puppies. These poor animals are in cages much too small
for them, sometimes doubled up so that the store can get twice the
animals in that plexigass windowed closet of their's.. it's enough to
make you sick. I saw Rotweilers (sp) in with golden retrievers (The
latter being a guess, but I /know/ a rot when I see it) and with nothing
at all to lay on when they get tired. The bottom of the cages are made
the same way as the sides, just perfect for little paws to slip into, be
spread by, and just cause general pain and injury. It's no reason these
poor babies lay down and bark all of the time, or just sleep their misery
away. I'd want to be unconcious for that imprisonment, too. Family Pet
Centers Must be stopped.

In all the gloom, we found one bright light: Petsmart in Waterbury, CT.
I was just ready to give up on finding a decent place to buy our food and
supplies when we found this store, and such a relief! Not only do they
have everything you might want or need for your fuzzie.. but they DON'T
SELL FERRETS! What they do sell are very small animals in very clean
enclosures, and they hold adoptions for cats and dogs. I'm not sure if
they do ferret shelter days, but wouldn't that be nifty? They also have
a vet hospital right there in their store. It's too bad that it's such a
drive, but we've decided that this is where we're shopping for our trio.

BTW, Kokie, who once weighed almost half a pound, now weighs 2.5 lbs.
Take THAT, Family Pet Centers.
