I have a similar problem, my guys lay on the floor on their backs and
open the bottom drawer and then crawl up the back to the 1st and 2nd
drawer. The drawer unit is self contained so they can't go into the
other cabinets or the walls.

They have basically taken over those drawers so my "stuff" is in a basket
on the counter. I had the same problem with them getting on the counter,
which I didn't mind but they started going potty up there too and that's
when it had to stop. So the top 2 drawers I put childproof latches, the
cheap ones that are long with a pointed tip. I did the top two drawers
because the little monsters used the second drawer to jump up to the
counter too.....little Marines I tell you. They can hurl themselves over
the average barriers.

I would be worried though about the register, can you cover it with wire,
not chicken wire but something that has smaller holes. As your ferret
grows it may get stuck and injure herself and it sounds like just open
territory under there. You never know what holes are there she could
travel to or get stuck in..
