I keep reading about the health of MF ferrets in pet stores. I know some
of it may be MF themselves. But a lot of it is the pet stores. I was
thrown out of one pet store because I raised a stink about the condition
of their ferrets cage. They were all MF's. But there was no food, no
water and the cage was dirty. On the other hand the pet store I go to
regularly sells (and has for for years) only MF's. These babies are taken
care of by the staff. If one seems sick it is moved to the back until it
can be taken to the vet on the SAME DAY. The cage is always clean and the
ferrets are loved and played with by store personnel. And if the kits
seem a little small the manager has a nice cage set up in the back where
they stay for a week or two. And her cage out in the store has a lid on
it. You have to get permission to handle the kits, and children holding
them are a definite no-no. So not only do we need to stay on MF about
shipping the babies too young, we also need to keep an eye on the pet
stores an d help educate the personnel if we can.
