Dear Anon -
First don't give any your ferret anything other than ferret stuff. Any
treats you give the little one will only fill it up and keep it from
eating things that are good for it and will actually put weight on.
Sugars and carbs do not add weight to ferrets like they do to humans.
They are useless calories that will only fill up the tummy and not
provide the nutrients needed to put the weight on.
Second, get your babe to the vet and have a blood panel run to make sure
there are no underlying medical issues causing the low weight and possible
muscle wasting. My 2 guys Frankie and Poncho, especially Poncho, were
thin and it turned out to be inflammatory bowel disease. Which is easily
treated with Imuran, which is not expensive and a good thing too because
they will be on it the rest of their lives. They are now starting to put
weight on. After a couple of months they will go in for another blood
panel to make sure the dosage is correct to keep the IBD under control.
I hope that helps.
