You can find lots of information on IBD at the Yahoo Group Ferret Health
List. This is where vets post lots of information on all kinds of ferret
diseases.
IBD - can cause all kinds of serious problems, so do whatever you can to
get the ferret to the vet. My guys have been treated and are doing
remarkably well. They are so much more energetic and happy.
Feeding a high quality food like Totally Ferret would also benefit the
little one, but the switch must be made gradually or it will irritate the
bowel more. Also a laxative will also make it worse. This must be
treated by a vet. From what I understand IBD can cause insulinomia and
lymphoma if left untreated. I don't know if they have a site, but
Southwest Animal Hospital in Beaverton Oregon has an expert on the
illness, Dr. Burgess.
If the friend doesn't want to take care of the ferret properly would you
be able take it into your home? If it's just a financial issue for your
friend and she truly loves the ferret and you can help her, you are a
wonderful friend indeed!
