Here are some places for finding ferret vets for anyone in need: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ferret-Health-list/files/FML-shelter-list.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ferret-Health-list/files/FerretVets.html http://www.miamiferret.org/fhc http://www.quincyweb.net/quincy/vet.html http://www.thepetproject.com/starferrets.html http://ferretcentral.org >Also, can ferrets get FIV from an infected cat or is that specific to >felines? They don't get it from what I have read; use search engines for either FML or FHL for vets' answers. > http://nv.essortment.com/ferretscancer_rrij.htm Just skimmed this, but not even knowing who wrote it there are a few things I'll bet whoever wrote th intro and whoeve wrote the piece might alter a few things these days like the use of the word "cancer" and giving the lifespans of ferrets as 5 to 8. Five is awfully young to die usually for a ferret being just middle aged; our usual longevities here (farm and private breeders as sources) is late 7 to middle 8 with some older and some younger. Saw some very good things in the article in my skim, too. (and even went to the home page and found a fine looking recipe). I wonder if it's about time to repost the golden oldie from vet, Brcue Williams, and from some veterianry and medical dictionaries on what is or is not "cancer". Will haved to try to remember to go bakc and read that site you gave more carefullywhenmy fever is gone or when it is once again taking a break. I don't like the FS site myself. For sites entirely by vets I like ones from ferret veterianary specialists: http://www.afip.org/ferrets/index.html (ferret pathology and health care site by vet who is world expert on several things including ECE) http://members.atlantic.net/~weah/ferrets.html (esp. excellent vet for surgical techniques, circulatory info, teaching videos, more) http://home.att.net/~hhoefer/ (many common problems on site incl. blockage info) http://www.lbah.com/Ferrets/ferret_diseases.htm (many common problems on site and spaying info) http://www.bradleyhills.com/ and http://www.ferretdoctor.com (vet page with very detailed adrenal and insulinoma info) http://www.weareanimalhospital.com/healthinfo.htm (multiple ferret health articles, with plans to also add more, and add some to http://exoticandbirdclinic.com/ in the future. See experimental insulinoma approach.) We use c-clamps to stop Scooter from turning over litter pans. No fuss, no muss, nad cheap. -- Sukie (forgive fever typos, please) For ferret health information: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ferret-Health-List http://geocities.com/sukieslist [Posted in FML issue 3795]
