If the situation in WY then the tissue was too rotted to know for sure
what killed the entire bunch since cellular pathology work couldn't be
done.  Some non-diagnostic aspects fitted with ECE as did the general
history, but the detial history did NOT fit with ECE and the diagnostic
lesions were NOT found.  Dr. Bruce Williams doubts that it was ECE but
what it was can't be determined at this point due to the state of the
tissues.
 
If you mean the situation in CO then the last I heard was that the tissues
from that were going to be shared with Doctors Bruce Williams and Matti
Kiupel for some very non-standard (and expensive but this will be a
special free-bee) tests.  Like the WY cases this one had some rough
similarities to ECE but the clearly diagnostic aspects were not found.
 
So, at this point no one knows what killed these ferrets, though the
chances of it having been ECE are considered very slim.  No even knows
if they share a common cause and that probably will never be known given
the state of the WY tissues.
 
I expect that once more is known the CO person will hear first and then
they hopefully will send updates so that we can all learn.
