A week or so ago, I wrote in about our ferret Veil, who is 4. She was
experiencing grainy, golden poop, but was eating well and playing well.
She was missing her litterbox more than she was using it. I checked with
the place we got her and they said it might be "tummy trouble" and not to
worry too much, especially as she was eating and drinking well.
On Monday, we noticed some hairloss on her flanks. More of an overall
lightening from the shoulders on down. Nothing drastic, with more loss
on the sides of the back.
We took her to the vet who said it didn't appear to be adrenal disease as
other than some hair thinning she had none of the symptoms. She suspected
ECE and thought maybe the hairloss was a secondary or stress reaction.
She put her on Clavamox twice a day (.25 ml) hoping that would help with
the diarrhea. She said her spleen seemed to be enlarged, but didn't
think that was a huge problem either.
This morning she took her medicine around 8:00, played, ate and played
some more before taking her nap. When she got up around 10:00 she played
hard for awhile, then threw up 3 times. It smelled like her food.
I called the vet and she said she may have some ulcerations causing the
gagging and throwing up and to keep her on the medication for a few more
days and see how she does. She said her golden poop (rather than black,
etc) was a good sign, along with the fact that she eats, drinks and plays
normally. I expressed concern over the continued hair loss and she said
that may be adrenal problems.
Does anybody have any thoughts? I'm desperate to help her. I trust my
vet but I feel like I'm grasping at straws. At this moment, she's sitting
in her cage, scratching to get out and play. Outside of the thinning
hair, you wouldn't suspect a thing was wrong.
Any thoughts anyone might have would be very appreciated.
Debbie
